Welcome!
Bulletin for the 4th Sunday of July 2010
__________________________________________________________________________
WELCOME
We’re glad you’re here! It’s always a joy to welcome guests to our ser-vices. We hope you’ll return often!
Today is the third in our sermon series on Freedom!
Last week’s message was on freedom from being ruled by our fleshly feelings. We often use the excuse that we don’t feel like it to excuse us from doing the things we should do.
There are many areas where this applies. One of which is our homes. It’s easy to settle down in front of the TV with a remote in one hand a drink in the other and waste the evening staring mindlessly at the screen. We can sit for hours in front of a monitor surfing the web, tweeting on twitter or frittering away time blogging, chatting, etc., etc. And yet meaningful con-versations with family face to face has shrunk away to nothing and quality time together with family is virtually non-existent. Projects around the home, chores and housework, are left undone until we feel like doing them.
Instead of actually doing anything for others we are content with our ruts—we don’t feel like getting out, getting involved or actually doing any-thing for anyone else!!!
What’s true at home gets carried over into the church. We don’t feel like volunteering to do anything whether it’s help with the building upkeep or maintaining the grounds. Nor do we much feel like teaching a class, working in the nursery or helping out with youth groups. We’re much more comfortable hiring ―professionals‖ to do the work and then support them financially if we feel like we have money to spare!!!
We certainly don’t always feel like getting up to come to church on Sunday since ―it’s my only day off to rest‖. And, when it comes to our own personal spiritual growth, we don’t feel like reading the Bible, studying His Word or taking the time to pray. And we certainly don’t feel like witnessing along the way!
Being a feelings-driven individual makes for slavery of the most subtle sort! We have to push past our feelings to do the right thing whether we feel like it or not! When we refuse to be ruled by the flesh then we’ll find real joy and blessing in Christ!
Aren’t you glad that Christ pushed past His feelings and submitted to suffering a death beyond our comprehension, so that you and I could have forgiveness of sin, the hope of eternal life and the gift of the Holy Spirit!
Through the power of His Spirit we can break through the bondage of our fleshly feelings and enjoy FREEDOM!!!

ELDERS EDITORIAL
This is a new editorial message from the elders of this congregation. The elders will take turns writing this editorial, which will appear in the bulletin at the end of each month. It is to inform every one of current activities and future planning while giving devotional and spiritual thoughts. It will include a little bit about our relationship we have with God and a little bit about us. In addition, we hope it will keep the communication among the congre-gation and leadership alive.
Speaking of communication, if anyone has a suggestion on how to make things better, have a concern, a praise or a prayer request, let us know verbally or drop a note in the sugges-tion box, which is by the front doorway entrance. This also applies to songs you would like the worship teams to play or a message you want to hear from our ministers. Only the elders can open the suggestion box.
The vision interest is hard at work improving our buildings with much needed repairs and supplying us with a new printer without using any budget money. The side entranceway looks great with the new vinyl covering. The lights downstairs with new energy saving lamp assemblies are done. All that is left is the roof and it will be repaired in late August.
What a difference a week can make! July 13, our finances were in the red and last week, several thousand dollars over. I believe God heard our prayers and answered them because we received several large financial gifts at that time. The finance committee met and con-cluded there is very little waste to trim away from the budget right now without jeopardiz-ing proper church operations. We did however change electric suppliers and in doing so, saving us about 10% or about $115.00 a month on our electric spending. Every little bit helps.
Summer brought another year of Vacation Bible School and Whitewater Camp. The Teen Mission team is doing their thing this week and the Northmen will head to Michigan next week. A new Sunday school year will begin soon and let us not forget the Bible Bowl team, which also starts soon. As we plan, let us include God first. The elder’s desire for this con-gregation is to include God in everything we do, to please Him while praising His name.
Life gets more challenging as it seems to go faster while we get older. God told us it would be challenging but nothing we cannot handle if we put our trust in Him. We know Satan is alive and he wants all of us to join him for his doomsday. However, we must patiently wait for Jesus as we continue to put our trust in Him. In doing so, we will receive blessings. David describes this in Psalms 40:1-4.
