“They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts.”
The Book of Acts tells of how the early Christians met together in Fellowship.
They realized that spending time together, growing closer as friends, was the way to form
connections with each other. And the closer we are, the better we are able to help each
other in our spiritual growth. The more we care about each other, the more successful we are
in our Christians lives. (Connectivity) is the key to the Christian life.
How we got started
Somewhere around 1960, two ladies at Anderson Ferry Church of Christ also realized this. So Esther
Easter and Gladys Girten formed a special group, named the Ladies Fellowship.
Meeting once a month, the group’s goal was to provide a place where the ladies could
form those close relationships with their sisters-in-Christ. They did this through
general fellowship, service projects, picnics and special gatherings, and occasional
field trips. Men have a special way of dealing with situations. They recognize the
need/problem, get a focus group of some sort together, and begin planning.
They develop some type of mission statement, delegate responsibilities to various team
members, form and then implement a plan to reach their overall objectives. Women just seem
to do this by intuition. Esther and Gladys didn’t sit down and analyze what was needed.
But the final solution met the need.
What we do.
The Ladies Fellowship of Anderson Ferry Church of Christ meets the first Tuesday of every
month. All ladies are invited to attend any of the events. Regardless of age,
social status, marital status, or any other type of status all are welcome. Besides
their monthly meeting, the Fellowship gathers for an occasional picnic or special outing.
In May they hold their annual “Ladies Banquet” to honor mothers. They stress that you do
not have to be a mother or be with your mother to attend. But you do have to at least be
a daughter. Christmas parties, craft nights, service projects and the occasional nursing
home visit are also on the agenda. A Benevolence Committee is in operation to help during
times of loss. They provide an after-the-funeral meal to help out in such a difficult time.
During Christmas the Fellowship assembles care packages filled with cookies and other goodies
to send to those serving in the military.
Our Purpose.
The Ladies Fellowship strives to provide ways to connect for the women of Anderson Ferry
Church of Christ. Because they understand that connections are the key to a thriving,
growing, maturing church.
